WHY WE NEED TO BE VIGILANT
While practically everyone agrees that lakes Jocassee, Keowee, and Hartwell are spectacular treasures of the Golden Corner, not everyone will view them with an eye toward preserving their beauty and unspoiled quality. These waterways are environmentally fragile, and overdevelopment or growth without regard to the preservation of these resources could quickly destroy their unique beauty.
Other lakes throughout the country face similar pressures of development, and many of those have not taken steps to properly manage their growth. The result has been sadly disappointing in some cases, and catastrophic in others.
The MLCA strives to inform the public and our public officials of potential dangers that face our lakes through a proactive program of community involvement. By keeping close watch on potential development, we hope to aviod the mistakes that have ruined so many other lakes.
